Tiny Zug, these villages in the Arlberg are the real thing.

This view from the Balmenalp lift shows real feel of the area.  Here is the Zug’s web link:  http://www.ski-lech.com/ski-resorts-lech-zurs-austria/zug.html It is super charming and visitors staying in Lech have been riding hoarse-drawn carriages to Zug for dinner for many decades!

Snow and Sun in St. Anton.

A couple of initial shots here.  First Sarah finds the soft stuff off the Maroikopf summit, then of Joey Klein speeding through the good snow in the Grosses Steirloch last week.  Look for a bunch more photos and some great links to things we did in the Arlberg!

Return to the Arlberg!

We are so very excited to be heading back to the Arlberg next week.  Our ski tour company has a fairly extensive history there and like downhill skiing itself, this is where it all began!  Our trip begins on Saturday the 22nd of January in St. Anton and we can not wait!  Look for updates as Alpenglow returns to the Alps.

The New York Times gets it.

Here is a link to todays travel section of the New York Times.  It seems they feel exactly the same way we do; that is, Disentis rocks.  Just what we have been saying all along. Disentis is the central stop on our Glacier Express ski tour.  The article does capture the undiscovered feel and vast skiing possibilities on offer here.  Check it out.  http://travel.nytimes.com/2010/12/12/travel/12disentis.html?ref=travel

Photos of Norm and Judy on a small hike (notice the Swiss hiking paint flash just right of Judy’s leg) to big powder.  Last season above Disentis.  Below Danne getting some of the good stuff, same run.

Danne and friends get the Utah powder!

Judy Fajita, as solid as ever, rocking it in Alta!

Norm and Judy with the smiles the reserve for the very happiest times; powder days!

This is Norm going ahead and getting some.  Thanks to Daniel for the shots and nice job in Alta!

A hot link from Danne.

Daniel, who is currently enjoying the great start to the season in Alta (photos promised), sends us this link to check out.  Beware, he says it will make you go skiing in Austria! http://www.vorarlbergvonoben.at/video/DE/300/Stuben-Albona

No One Does What We Do!

We really can not put it any more simply than that.  Our collective experience led us to start this company and it is this experience that allows us to create and deliver the Alpenglow ski safaris adventure.   In this photo Jan and Pat Deckle as well as Norm and Judy Fajita can be seen living it up in the Arlberg.  These couples have been on about 8 alpenglow trips between them alone!  Also in the photo here are Peter Walker and Julie Scheonfeld.  All smiles in the Alps!  This photo was taken after leaving the Rendl area above St. Anton, skiing about 700 ft vertical and then a gradual rising traverse to the pass.   This set us up for the 6 or 7 mile run down the valley which ends up two villages below St. Anton.  Catch the bus back and you are ready to ski the afternoon runs that could be in any number of places around the ski area.  Thats where we as guides can really shine.  So many lifts, so many runs; so many choices!  There are over 80 lifts in the Arlberg system so it pays to know where you are going and why!  Call us today for more information or to get some direct feedback people who have been on our tours.

First turns-first Mak-um. It’s ski season!

The new season is upon us and a hike up to the top of lift 9 in Telluride is always a great way to start.  Here Noel Jones can be seen getting his season going right.  Sunshine and some thick early season snow added up to a fantastic run.  It takes about two hours of skinning up from town and it is the make or break moment of your off season training!  The first turns are always mysterious but lucky muscle memory is stronger than that of the mind.Pete Dahl fires his first Kant-Mak-Um with the town of Telluride in the sun far below.  There are more photos of this fine start to our season on the facebook page (scroll to the bottom), please check it out.  Snow storms are hitting in the Alps as well so lets go skiing!

Bear Creek Mountain Video

Last March both Daniel and Peter led a group of Telluride Ski School dignitaries on an incredible tour through Bear Creek.  Conditions were ideal (plentiful powder and sunshine)!  The event was recorded by our man Andy Kruger of Mountain Video in Telluride.   We are working on uploading the great footage right now.  Until then, find out more about Andy and his company: //www.mountainvideoproductions.com/
